You are automatically covered by the French health insurance system (known as the "sécu"). You are covered by Caisse primaire d'assurance maladie (CPAM) where you or your parents live.
From age 18You will be directly insured (you will no longer be your parents' 'beneficiary') and you will manage your own health. Don't forget to :
- Create your ameli account on ameli.fr or on the Ameli application
- Submit your Rib via your Ameli account
- Declaring a preferred doctor
- Update your Vitale card at a pharmacy or your health insurance fund
- Take out a supplementary health insurance policy if you want to top up your reimbursements
Health insurance reimburses 70% of costs health insurance. To be reimbursed at 100%, you need to take out a complementary health insurance which will pay the remaining 30%. Find out about your parents' complementary health insurance, student mutual insurance or other complementary health insurance. Make sure you compare services and prices.
If your income does not exceed a certain amount, you can benefit from the Supplementary health insurance.
