I'm coming to Besançon by TER, am I entitled to a reduced fare?

All under-26s have a reduction of 50 % without showing a season ticket.

For those who travel frequently subscriptions weekly, monthly or annual enable young people to under 26 obtain up to 80% discount on a route of their choice.

And if I come by TGV, are there any fares for young people?

Yes, there are several fares for young people on Inoui TGV and Intercités trains: 

  • the Avantage jeune card from the SNCF: for 12-27 year-olds, it costs €49 and offers a 30% discount on all journeys.
    ATTENTION not to be confused with Avantage cards Youngs the Info Jeunes network !
  • the student and apprentice rates Reduced fare: for pupils under 21, students under 26 and apprentices under 29. This reduced fare is valid on a route chosen in advance, provided that the tickets are purchased in sets of 10 (to be used within 60 days).
  • subscription Young Max for 16-27 year olds who have flexible availability. For €79 a month, this pass allows you to travel free of charge or with a 30% discount on a selection of trains. The number of seats is limited.

I live in a neighbouring region of Burgundy-Franche-Comté: is my TER discount card valid between my home and Besançon?

All under-26s can travel with a reduction of 50 % on Mobigo trains (the name given to TER trains in Burgundy-Franche-Comté) without having to show a season ticket. This reduction also applies to TER journeys to and from the Centre-Val de Loire, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Grand Est and Paris regions.

The youth season tickets for Mobigo trains are also valid for TER journeys to and from Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Centre-Val de Loire, Grand Est (except Pass abonnement hebdo -26 ans) and Paris.

How much does a Mobigo coach journey cost?

A Mobigo coach journey costs 2 € whatever the distance.
You can also buy 10-trip cards for €18 or take out a subscription for €50 a month.

Bus - Tram

What is the Ginko network?

Ginko is the name of the Besançon transport network. It serves all the municipalities in the Grand Besançon Métropole urban community.

It includes 2 tram lines (T1 and T2) and 4 main lines (Lanes numbered L3, L4, L5 and L6) which run every day during the day and evening.
These lines run frequently: every 5 to 12 minutes during the day.

The urban lines, numbered 7 to 12, run during the day from Monday to Saturday, with service every 8 to 40 minutes depending on the line and the time of day.

Complementary lines and suburban lines (serving the other communes of Greater Besançon) complete the network.

Are the bus and tram timetables the same every day?

Nothere is a colour system. Each colour corresponds to a different timetable. : 

  • days blue Usually on weekdays during the school term,
  • days yellow Weekdays: generally on weekdays during the short school holidays,
  • days roses Saturday: usually Saturdays (and weekdays during the summer holidays),
  • days orange Saturday: usually on Saturdays during the summer holidays,
  • days grey Sundays and public holidays.

How can I find out when buses and trams run?

Until what time are there buses and trams in the evening?

Bus and tram lines T1, T2, L3, L4, L5 and L6 run until around 1am on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings and until 11.30pm on other nights of the week. 

Good to know: there is a connection between all the lines at the République hub ("République" and "Courbet" stops) at the end of the evening.

I travel from time to time, how much does it cost and how do I pay?

You can pay with your credit card (or your smartphone) by passing it in front of the validator. The journey costs 1,40 € and is valid for 1 hour.

Another solution is to buy a 1h pass for 1,40 €. To do this, you need a reload card (€0.20) which can be bought from vending machines, on buses, at the Ginko mobilité agency or at a sales point.

I travel regularly, can I get discounts?

Yes, there is a reduced-rate season ticket for all 15-25 year olds: the pass 15/25. It costs €16.80 per month or €180 per year.

It is loaded onto the Ginko mobilités card. This card can be purchased online or theGinko Mobilités agency (Place de la Révolution - 29 rue des Boucheries, Besançon).

Do I have to validate my card in transit?

Yesyou need validate your card every time you board a bus or tram, even when transferring.

Is my Ginko ticket also valid on TER Mobigo trains?

YesIf you have a Ginko season ticket, such as the 18/25 pass, it is valid on Mobigo trains (TER) for the following journeys journeys within the Grand Besançon Métropole area. All you need is your Ginko Mobilités card (with a valid season ticket loaded on it). There is no need to validate.

Bike

How does Ginko VéloCité, the self-service bicycle system, work?

Ginko VéloCité offers almost 200 self-service bicycles: 100 classic bicycles and 100 electric bicycles.

You can hire a bike occasionally for 1 journey (€1), 24 hours (€2) or 72 hours (€4). After that, the first 30 minutes are free with a conventional bike (€1 for an electric bike). Additional ½ hours cost €0.50 each.

You can also subscribe for 1 year. There are 2 formulas: 

  • The Essential Pass at €24 per year. The first 30 minutes are free with a conventional bike and cost €1 with an electric bike. Additional ½ hours are charged at €0.50 each.
  • The Comfort pass at €48 per year: the first 30 minutes are free whether the bike is electric or conventional. Additional ½ hours cost €0.50 each.

What you need to know:
the Essential Pass is free for Ginko subscribers ;
holders of the Avantages Jeunes card have a €5 discount on subscriptions.

How do I find a route that's suitable for cycling?

There are signposted routes in Greater Besançon. They are partially equipped or use less busy streets.

Can I hire an electric bike?

The service Ginko Vélo allows hire an electric bike for 1, 3, 6 or 12 months. Prices vary from €25 to €60 per month, depending on the length of the hire period. 

Note: subscribers to the Ginko network benefit from a 50% discount.

Where can I buy a second-hand bike at a low price?

The workshop Les Manivelles sells second-hand bikes that have been serviced by the association's volunteers. They are sold at low prices, but sometimes there are still a few adjustments to be made (adjusting the brakes, changing a tyre, etc.).

Is there any assistance available for buying a bike?

Grand Besançon Métropole gives assistance for thepurchase of an electric bike. It is aimed at residents of the area whose income does not exceed a certain amount.

The aid is 25% of the purchase price of the bicycle and may not exceed €200.

Where can I repair my bike?

There is a self-repair workshop of bicycles : Les Manivelles.
You'll learn how to repair your bike yourself with the help of volunteers.
A €15 membership of the association is required for access to the workshop.

Where can I park my bike?

From hoops are available throughout the city.
To find out where they are, go to carto-interactive.grandbesancon.fr (in the menu, select "transport and travel" and then tick "cycle racks").

From car parks You can park your bike in complete safety in the covered, enclosed areas: the Ginko VéloParks. There are 12 in the Greater Besançon area: see the map. Access costs €1.40 per day. Subscriptions are available for €2 a month or €20 a year. Access is free for year-round Ginko subscribers.

Can I get on the tram or bus with my bike?

On the busbicycles are prohibited (except folding bikes).

On the tramthey are authorised at off-peak times but not at peak times (except for folding bikes). On weekdays (Monday to Friday), you cannot take your bike between 7am and 9am and between 4.30pm and 6.30pm. It is possible the rest of the day if traffic permits. On Saturdays, bicycles are prohibited from 2pm to 6.30pm.

The scooters are authorized on buses and trams, provided they are carried by hand.

Car

I live outside Besançon and I'm coming by car. Where can I park?

Most streets and car parks in the city centre are paying during the day from 9am to 7pm (except Sundays and public holidays). There are alsosubscription. There is a special rate for carpoolers.

Parking is free on the Bouloie campus, but there is often a charge for parking on the Hauts-du-Chazal campus.

Think about park and ride located at the main entrances to the city and continue your journey by bus or tram. Parking is free, and all you need to do to get out of the car is show a ticket used during the day.

What is Citiz car sharing?

These are self-service cars in 26 stations and available 24 hours a day.
You can use them to run a quick errand or go for a day or weekend outing, for example.
You can choose from a range of car sizes.

First you need to register. You then pay each month according to the number of kilometres driven in the month and the time used.

How does Citiz car sharing work?

You must first register online or at the Citiz agency.
Book the car on the Citiz app (or by phone), even at the last minute.
Unlock the car with the app, do a quick check-up and you're ready to go.
On the way back, bring the car back where you took it. After a quick inspection, you can close with the application.
If you have any problems, you can call Citiz assistance 24 hours a day.
You will receive a bill every month.

The rate depends on the number of kilometres travelled, the number of hours of use and the size of the car.

Le price per km is €0.42 (€0.22 over 100 km).

Le price per hour depends on the size of the car: 

  • Without season ticket: €5.50 for a small car (capped at €39 for a day and €180 for a week).
  • With a subscription (€16/month): €3 for a small car (capped at €22 for a day and €120 for a week).
  • For Ginko subscribers: no subscription. The hourly rate is €4 for a small car (capped at €29 for a day and €149 for a week).

Are there any car park discounts for carpooling?

Yes. Carpoolers can obtain a discount on subscription in car parks: 20% for 2 people, 30% for 3 people.

What is Ginko Access and how does it work?

This is a transport on demand for holders of the disability" mobility and inclusion card. It operates with the usual Ginko fares. 

It runs every day from 7am to 9pm (11pm on Fridays and Saturdays). 

You must first register for the service online, by telephone, by post or at the Ginko branch.

All you have to do is book your journey at least 1 hour in advance using the Ginko Acces application or by telephone.
