Getting to Besançon: TGV, trains and Mobigo coaches

I come to Besançon by TER, am I entitled to a reduced fare?

All under-26s have a reduction of 50 % without presenting a season ticket.

For frequent travellers subscriptions weekly, monthly or annual enable young people to under 26 obtain up to 80% discount on a route of their choice.

And if I come by TGV, are there any fares for young people?

Yes, there are several fares for young people on Inoui TGV and Intercités trains: 

  • the Avantage jeune card from the SNCF: for 12-27 year-olds, it costs €49 and offers a 30% discount on all journeys.
    ATTENTION not to be confused with Avantage cards Youngs of the Info Jeunes network !
  • the student and apprentice rates Reduced fare: for schoolchildren under 21, students under 26 and apprentices under 29. This reduced fare is valid on a route chosen in advance, provided tickets are purchased in sets of 10 (to be used within 60 days).
  • subscription Young Max for 16-27 year olds with flexible availability. For €79 a month, this pass allows you to travel free of charge or with a 30% discount on selected trains. The number of seats is limited.

I live in a neighbouring region of Burgundy-Franche-Comté: is my TER discount card valid between my home and Besançon?

All under-26s can travel with a valid reduction of 50 % on Mobigo trains (that's the name of the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté TER trains) without having to show a season ticket. This discount also applies to TER journeys to and from the Centre-Val de Loire, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Grand Est and Paris regions.

Visit youth season tickets for Mobigo trains are also valid for TER journeys to and from Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Centre-Val de Loire, Grand Est (except Pass abonnement hebdo -26 ans) and Paris.

How much does a Mobigo coach trip cost?

A Mobigo coach journey costs 2 € regardless of distance.
You can also buy 10-trip cards for €18 or subscribe for €50 a month.

What is the Ginko network?

Ginko is the name of the Besançon transport network. It serves all the communes of the Grand Besançon Métropole urban community.

It includes 2 streetcar lines (T1 and T2) and 4 main lines (Lianes numbered L3, L4, L5 and L6) that run every day during the day and evening.
These lines run frequently, every 5 to 12 minutes during the day.

Urban lines numbered 7 to 12 run daytime from Monday to Saturday, with service every 8 to 40 minutes, depending on the line and the time of day.

Complementary lines and suburban lines (serving other towns in the Greater Besançon area) complete the network.

Are the bus and streetcar timetables the same every day?

Nothere is a color system. Each color corresponds to a different schedule. : 

  • days blue Weekdays: generally on weekdays during the school year,
  • days yellow Weekdays: generally on weekdays during the short school vacations,
  • days roses Saturday (and weekdays during summer vacation),
  • days orange Saturdays during the summer vacations,
  • days gray Sundays and public holidays.

How can I find out when buses and streetcars run?

On www.ginko.voyageyou can consult the future visits in real time at standstill of your choice or consult the time cards.

You can find this information on theapp Ginko mobilités to download on the PlayStore or theAppStore.

Until what time are there buses and streetcars in the evening?

Bus and streetcar lines T1, T2, L3, L4, L5 and L6 run until around 1 a.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, and until 11:30 p.m. on other nights of the week. 

Note: all lines connect at the République hub ("République" and "Courbet" stops) in the late evening.

How much does it cost and how do I pay?

You can pay with your credit card (or your smartphone) by passing it in front of the validator. The trip costs 1,40 € and is valid for 1 hour.

Another solution is to buy a 1h pass for 1,40 €. To do this, you need a rechargeable card (€0.20) which can be purchased from vending machines, on buses, at the Ginko mobilité agency or at a point of sale.

I travel regularly, can I get discounts?

Yes, there is a reduced-rate subscription for all 15-25 year-olds: the pass 15/25. It costs €16.80 per month or €180 per year.

It loads onto the Ginko mobilités card. This card can be purchased online or theGinko Mobilités agency (Place de la Révolution - 29 rue des Boucheries, Besançon).

Do I have to validate my card in transit?

Yesyou need validate your card every time you board a bus or streetcar, even when transferring.

Is my Ginko ticket also valid on TER Mobigo trains?

YesIf you have a Ginko subscription, such as the 18/25 pass, it is valid on Mobigo trains (TER) for the following services journeys within the Grand Besançon Métropole territory. All you need is your Ginko Mobilités card (with a valid season ticket loaded on it). There's no need to validate.

Bike

How does Ginko VéloCité, the self-service bicycle system, work?

Ginko VéloCité offers nearly 200 self-service bicycles: 100 classic bikes and 100 electric bikes.

You can rent a bike occasionally for 1 trip (€1), 24 hours (€2) or 72 hours (€4). After that, the first 30 minutes are free with a conventional bike (€1 for an electric bike). Additional ½ hours cost €0.50 each.

You can also subscribe for 1 year. There are 2 formulas: 

  • The Essential Pass at €24 per year. The first 30 minutes are free with a classic bike and cost €1 with an electric bike. Additional ½ hours are charged at €0.50 each.
  • The Comfort pass at €48 per year: the first 30 minutes are free whether the bike is electric or classic. Additional ½ hours cost €0.50 each.

Worth knowing:
the Essential Pass is free for Ginko subscribers ;
holders of the Avantages Jeunes card have a €5 discount on subscriptions.

How do I find an itinerary suitable for cycling?

There are marked routes for bicycles in Greater Besançon. They are partially equipped or use less busy streets.

Can I rent an electric bike?

The service Ginko Vélo allows rent an electric bike for 1, 3, 6 or 12 months. Rates vary from €25 to €60 per month, depending on the rental period. 

Note: subscribers to the Ginko network benefit from a 50% discount.

Where can I buy a used bike at a low price?

The workshop Les Manivelles sells second-hand bikes overhauled by the association's volunteers. They are sold at low prices, but sometimes there are still a few adjustments to be made (brake adjustment, changing a tire, etc.).

Is there any help for buying a bike?

Grand Besançon Métropole gives help for thepurchase of an electric bicycle. It is aimed at local residents whose income does not exceed a certain amount.

The subsidy is 25% of the purchase price of the bike, up to a maximum of €200.

Where can I repair my bike?

There is a self-repair workshop of bicycles : Les Manivelles.

Where can I park my bike?

From hoops are spread throughout the city.
To find out where they are, go to carto-interactive.grandbesancon.fr (in the menu, select "transport and travel", then check "bike racks").

From parking lots to park your bike in complete safety. Ginko VéloParks. There are 12 in the Greater Besançon area: view map. Access costs €1.40 per day. Subscriptions are available for €2 per month or €20 per year. Access is free for year-round Ginko subscribers.

Can I get on the streetcar or bus with my bike?

On the busbicycles are prohibited (except folding bikes).

On the streetcarthey are permitted during off-peak hours but not at peak times (except for folding bikes). On weekdays (Monday to Friday), you can't get on with your bike between 7am and 9am and between 4.30pm and 6.30pm. The rest of the day, if traffic permits. On Saturdays, bicycles are prohibited from 2pm to 6.30pm.

Visit scooters are authorized on buses and streetcars, provided they are carried by hand.

Car

I live outside Besançon and come by car. Where can I park?

Most streets and parking lots downtown are paying daytime from 9am to 7pm (except Sundays and public holidays). There are alsosubscription. A special rate is available for carpoolers.

Parking is free on the Bouloie campus, but often subject to a charge on the Hauts-du-Chazal campus.

Think about park-and-ride located at the main entrances to the city and continue your journey by bus or streetcar. Parking is free of charge, and all you need to do to get out of the car is to show a valid ticket for the day.

What is Citiz carsharing?

These are self-service cars in 26 stations and available 24 hours a day.
You can use them to run a quick errand or go for a day or weekend stroll, for example.
Choose from a range of car sizes.

First you have to register. You then pay each month according to the number of kilometers you drive and the time you use the car.

How does Citiz carsharing work?

You must first register online or at the Citiz agency.
Book the car on the Citiz app (or by phone), even at the last minute.
Unlock the car with the app, make a quick inventory and you're ready to go.
On the way back, bring the car back where you took it. After a quick inspection, you're ready to close with the application.
In the event of a problem, you can call Citiz assistance 24 hours a day.
You'll receive a bill every month.

The rate depends on the number of km driven, the number of hours of use and the size of the car.

Visit price per km is €0.42 (€0.22 over 100 km).

Visit price per hour depends on the size of the car: 

  • Without subscription: €5.50 for a small car (capped at €39 for a day and €180 for a week).
  • With a subscription (€16/month): €3 for a small car (capped at €22 for a day and €120 for a week).
  • For Ginko subscribers: no subscription. The hourly rate is €4 for a small car (capped at €29 for a day and €149 for a week).

Are there any parking discounts for carpoolers?

Yes, carpoolers can obtain a subscription discount in parking lots: 20% for 2 people, 30% for 3 people.

This discount applies to all paid parking lots managed by Grand Besançon Métropole :

What is Ginko Access and how does it work?

This is a transport on demand for holders of the disability" mobility and inclusion card. It operates with the usual Ginko pricing system. 

It runs every day from 7am to 9pm (11pm on Fridays and Saturdays). 

You must first register for the service online, by telephone, by post or at the Ginko agency.

Then simply book your journey at least 1 hour in advance using the Ginko Acces application or by telephone.
