You are automatically covered by the French health insurance system (known as "Sécu"). You are covered by Caisse primaire d'assurance maladie (CPAM) where you or your parents live.
From age 18You'll be directly insured (you won't be your parents' "beneficiary") and you'll manage your own health. Don't forget to :
- Create your ameli account on ameli.fr or on the Ameli application
- Submit your Rib via your Ameli account
- Declaring an attending physician
- Update your Vitale card, at a pharmacy or your health insurance fund
- Subscribe to a complementary health insurance plan if you want to top up your reimbursements
Medicare reimburses 70% of expenses health insurance. To be reimbursed at 100%, you need to take out a complementary health care which will pay the remaining 30%. Ask your parents about complementary health insurance, student health insurance or other complementary health insurance. Make sure you compare services and prices.
If your income does not exceed a certain amount, you can benefit from the Supplementary health insurance.
She covers all healthcare costs (doctor, dentist, medication...) and you pay nothing in advance. Depending on your income, it may be free or subject to a charge (€8 per month for under-29s).

You will be given a provisional social security number.
2- Once your registration has been definitively validated, download the definitive social security certificate. This attestation allows you to be reimbursed for your treatment until you receive your carte Vitale.
