You're due to do an internship and you've got a lot of questions on your mind: do I need an agreement, will I be paid? Here are some answers to the main questions you may have.
YesIn order to be eligible for an internship, you must have an internship agreement signed by your school or university, your host company and yourself. It is not possible to do an internship without an agreement.
An internship must be linked to a training course. Only your school or university can sign an internship agreement for you.
If they don't want to, think about mini-workshops : The Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the Chambers of Trades and Crafts sign agreements with students who wish to participate in optional internships lasting up to 5 days during school breaks.
Please note: the Stages Monde program from the Burgundy-Franche-Comté Region enables you to take part in an internship abroad outside your studies for 3 to 5 months (if you're in a semester or gap year, for example). The program includes an internship agreement and a grant.
If your internship lasts less than 2 months, your employer is not obliged to pay you compensation. More than 2 monthsit's compulsory. The minimum amount is 4.50 per hour.
The maximum duration of an internship is 6 months per course year.
You will have the same rights as employees of your host company including :
- working hours (maximum working hours, daily rest, weekly rest, public holidays, night work),
- access to meal vouchers or the company restaurant,
- access to social and cultural activities provided by the Social and Economic Committee (CSE),
- reimbursement of public transport costs,
- protection against harassment.
Most establishments support their students in their search for internships (methodology, writing CVs and cover letters, access to job offers and company lists...).
At theMarie and Louis Pasteur University (formerly the Université de Franche-Comté), it's the OSE service (Career and Internship Services), which assists students with their job searches.
It offers group workshops, individual meetings and internships.
